Cape Cod has a beach for just about every vibe. Head to the ocean side and you’ll get bigger waves at spots like Coast Guard Beach in Eastham or Nauset Beach in Orleans, both favorites for surfers and long walks. Down on the Outer Cape, Race Point in Provincetown is wide open, with big dunes and a good chance of spotting seals. Each town has its own stretch of sand, but those are a few of the standouts locals always mention.

Skaket Beach (Orleans)

Skaket Beach sits calm on the bay side, with shallow, warm water and tidal flats that stretch out over a mile when the tide is out. It’s a magnet for families, shell collectors, and sunset lovers. At low tide, you’ll find hermit crabs, pools, and big views of the sun dipping over the water—no filter needed. There’s history too—Skaket likely comes from the Algonquian word for “at the outlet,” a nod to its tidal landscape.

Mayflower Beach (Dennis)

This one’s a bay gem in Dennis—white sand, calm water, and boardwalk access make it feel easy. Perfect for families who want lifeguards, restrooms, and a vibe that’s relaxed but safe. On a clear day, you’ll find volleyball on the sand, tide-pool hunting, and even a snack cart or two.

Nauset Beach (Orleans)

Out on the Atlantic side, Nauset has real Cape Cod energy—six miles of sand, surf, and space. Surf up, boogie board, fish, or just walk. Facilities include bathrooms, showers, food trucks, a snack shack (though it was lost to erosion), and OSV (off-road vehicle) access with a permit. Sunrise views? You bet.

Coast Guard Beach (Eastham)

If you want classic Cape Cape, this is it—dunes, big surf, beaches that shift with the seasons. Named for the old Coast Guard station still perched on the dunes. In summer, you park at Little Creek and take a shuttle. Locals keep coming for skim-boarding, watching shifting sands, and hoping to spot seals.

Race Point Beach (Provincetown)

All the Outer Cape feels massive here—wide dunes, longer walks, and if you’re lucky, whale fins on the horizon. There's a restored old life-saving station in the dunes you can tour by season. It’s also where dune-walking and whale-watching converge.
